英語一共有10大詞類：名詞，形容詞，數詞，代詞，動詞，副詞，冠詞，介詞，連詞，感歎詞.其中前六個屬於實詞，接下來三個是虛詞.感歎詞一般不構成句子成分，單獨為一類.除了上面的10類，還有表示肯定與否定的詞（yes，no），動詞不定式前面的短劇詞（to）.
